November's D-Lib Magazine contains Assessing the Durability of Formats in a Digital Preservation Environment: The INFORM Methodology, by Andreas Stanescu. INFORM stands for "INvestigation of FOrmats based on Risk Management",

a methodology developed at OCLC for investigating and measuring the risk factors of digital formats and providing guidelines for preservation action plans. In other words, INFORM attempts to discover specific threats to preservation and measure their possible impact on preservation decisions. Moreover, by repeating the process, changes in the threat model over time can be detected, to which one can act accordingly.
