Technical Architect
Boston Spa, Yorkshire - c£27k-£31k

The British Library is one of the greatest research libraries in the world. Our new strategic agenda is consolidating our position at the forefront of international developments in collecting, delivering and archiving electronic information.

As a nation we create billions of pages of digital content each year - a new and potentially enormous challenge is to preserve this content for future generations.

The British Library is seeking a Technical Architect to join a small team of experts to develop and drive a centre of excellence that will set new standards in practical digital preservation work in the UK. The centre is jointly developing next generation information architectures with leading commercial partners. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Excellent understanding of XML structure, semantics and related technologies
  • Several years experience in developing information architectures and ontologies in XML
  • Impressive understanding and enthusiasm for low-level technical matters such as protocol and file format reverse engineering
  • An in depth knowledge and understanding of file formats, file format conversion techniques and techniques for content non-repudiation
  • The ability to confidently explain and evangelise about all technical aspects of digital preservation

We are looking for an individual who will see this as working in the most challenging, unchartered professional area in which you can make a significant difference. This is an outstanding chance to play a high profile role in preserving one of the most varied collections of digital content in the world.

To apply, please send a CV quoting reference number AH029205, with a covering letter that explains how your experience matches the job profile to:
