digitizationblog focuses on digitization and related activities (such as electonic publishing) in libraries, archives, and museums, and is intended to be a source of news relevent to people who manage and implement digitization projects. Even though there are several excellent sources of digitization news such as the DigiCULT Newsletter and RLG DigiNews (and this blog certainly isn’t intended to replace them), there is a lack of space on the web where implementors can share ideas and useful pointers. digitizationblog is intended to fill part of this gap. Readers of digitizationblog might find Jill Hurst-Wahl's Digitization 101 useful as well.
Maintaining this blog helps me keep on top of information potentially useful in my professional activities as Head of Library Systems at Simon Fraser University, and as an occasional adjunct instructor at the University of British Columbia's School of Library, Archival and Information Studies. I also have written a book called Putting Content Online: A Practical Guide for Libraries (Chandos, 2006) that is related to this blog. I hope others find it useful, in the same way that I have found such news-oriented library blogs as David Bigwood's catalogablog and Peter Scott's Library Blog.
If you have any suggestions on improving digitizationblog, I'd love to hear them. Or, if you are interested in digitization, create an account and post some news! However, a word on spam, phishing, and trolling: Anyone is free to create an account on digitizationblog, but any posts or comments that appear to be spam (i.e., not related to the topic of the blog), that appear to solicit sensitive information from other people, or that have the appearance of troll postings will be deleted.
